Pressure
sensitive material has a peel off waxed paper that is removed to reveal
an adhesive surface. When choosing a fabric or paper for custom lamination
the following should be considered. What will it look like lit? Is the
scale of the print appropriate? Is it printed only on one side? Will the
folds press out? Is the material too thin or too heavy? Some fabrics have
been treated with stain resistant chemicals or sizing. They should be
washed prior to laminating. Press fabric to remove all the wrinkles. You
can also laminate maps, color copies, photographs, vintage linens, gift
wrap, handmade paper, fine needle work, navigational charts, note cards,
art prints, and wood veneer. Cut out the arc or shade panels you are going
to laminate from pressure sensitive material.
Place fabric etc. wrong side up on smooth, flat, clear work surface. Place
the cut to size arc, or shade panels on the fabric and mark a starting
point. Make sure the arc or panels will fit on the fabric. Peel back a
small portion of the protective covering and line it up with the placement
marks. Reach under the pressure sensitive material and remove the remaining
covering while smoothing the pressure sensitive material into place on
the paper or fabric. Cut excess fabric or paper from around the pressure
sensitive material and make your shade in the usual way. |
