FAUX MICA SHADES
MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • metallic spray paint
  • wire binding or lacing
  • assorted acrylic paints
  • natuarl sponge
  • finishing spray

Make a basic fiberglass lampshade using either an arc pattern or a suitable lampshade frame.

Spray the entire outside of the shade with a light coat of metallic gold, brass, or bronze paint.

When the paint is dry sponge on random layers of antique gold, rust and brown acrylic paint until you simulate the look of an old mica lampshade. Other colors can also be added if desired. When the acrylic paint is dry spray the entire outside of the lampshade with matte finishing spray. Add binding and decorative trim or punch holes and lace as desired.

Fiberglass may also be lightly spray painted or air brushed to reproduce lampshades popular in the 1950's.
